Umbrella Photograph
1. What time of day did you choose to take your photo?
Due to circumstances out of my control, I was forced to take my photographs in class.
2. Describe the photo.
The photograph is an image of the reflection of the umbrella reflector that is part of a light studio. Part of the actual object is in the photo in the lower left hand corner, the middle of the photo is the entire reflection, and the edges of the photograph are negative space.
3. How is the shadow cast in the photo?
A studio light was pointing onto the umbrella which cast a shadow onto the wall behind it. The photo was then taken so that a part of the actual object was shown but there was also a shadow with the shape of the umbrella being cast. The negative space also shows the shape of the umbrella which makes the photograph more dynamic.
4. Describe the composition and positive and negative space in the image.
The positive space is the umbrella, there is also shadow space in the shadow cast by the object, and the negative space is the white wall surrounding the shadow.
5. Did you incorporate line, shape, pattern, texture to add visual interest to your shot?
I incorporated curved lines and shapes into my photo with the curved lines and shapes made by the umbrella.
6. Finally, how does the shadow in your image add mood , mystery, or intrigue to the photo?
The shadow adds mystery to the photo because not enough of the image is really visible to known what the object is. Then because of the object, an umbrella, the viewer questions why there is an umbrella open inside.
